A Step-by-Step Guide to Adding a Listing to Google Business

Google my Business is a feature (in Google) that helps you manage your business and how it appears on Google Search and Maps. That includes essential details and info to reel new customers and inform loyal customers of any changes. How to Create a Google My Business Listing

  • Step 1: Log into your account (Google) or any account that will be used/associated with and for your business.
  • Step 2: Go to google.com/business and click “start now,” which can be found at the top right-hand corner.
  • Step 3: write up your business name.
  • Step 4: add in the business address. 
  • Step 5:go to customers’ locations, and check the box, “I deliver goods and services to my customers.” if that is what you intend to in your business.
  • Step 6: Next, make sure to choose your business category. Choose the most accurate category. You’re informing google who and what your target markets are. That makes your business easy to search by these people.
  • Step 7: add your contact information numbers or through websites and emails.
  • Step 8: Select verification options. When not ready to verify, click “Try a different method,” then continue to “Later.”

How to Verify Your Business on Google

There are many ways to verify your business: Through postcard, phone, email, Instant verification, and Bulk verification.

Postcard verification

  • Step 1: Sign in to google my business. You then want to choose what business (of yours) you want to verify. 
  • Step 2: The business address is must be correct. Make sure to add your contact name -for extra precaution.
  • Step 3: Choose “mail.” The postcard must reach you in approximately five days. Also, see to it that any piece of information about your business isn’t changed and exactly how you want it to be. Any edits will lead to delays in the postcard arriving on time.
  • Step 4: Once you receive the postcard, find the location you want to verify. If you only have one business location, click “verify now.”
  • Step 5: Enter the five-digit verification code written on the postcard. Then click “submit.”

If you happen to receive or might have even lost your postcard, you can ask for another code by going to Google My Business. And then choosing the “Request another code” that is located at the upper side of the screen.

Phone verification

You can verify your business and location through your phone. You will be able to see the “Verify by phone” option when starting the verification process.

  • Step 1: Log in to GMB and choose the business you want to verify.
  • Step 2: Before clicking “Verify by phone.” make sure your phone number is correct
  • Step 3: You will receive a verification code via text then after.

Email verification

You can verify your business by only using your email as well. You will see the “Verify by email” option first thing when doing the verification process.

  • Step 1: Log in to GMB and choose the business you want to verify. 
  • Step 2: Make sure your email address is correct to “Verify by email.”
  • Step 3: Go to your inbox. You will receive an email via Google My Business and click the verification button.

Instant verification

When verified, use Google Search Console (a feature tool that helps you manage your search performance). It is another alternative to confirm your email.

  • Step 1: Log in to Google My Business using the same account. You verified your business using Google Search Console. (take note: Some business categories are not always given instant verification. If you didn’t receive any notification requesting you verify the listing, you might have to use an alternative verification method.)

Bulk verification

Suppose you happen to own/ operate more than five or more locations for the same brand/ business. In that case, it is a crucial detail to know that a service business or an agency managing locations for multiple companies CANNOT use bulk verification.

  • Step 1: Log into GMB. Click “Get verified.”
  • Step 2: Click on “Chain.”
  • Step 3: Fill out the form with your business name for verification (include the parent company, if there is ), country/ countries located, contact names (i.e., your people who will Google My Business account), contact numbers, business manager contacts and info, and Google Account Manager info. 
  • Step 4: Submit the verification form. Note: this can take up about one week for Google to review and process your form.

Optimizing Your Google My Business Listing

After verifying your profile and all the critical things you need, it’s time to add depth and character to your business profile. 

Go to your business dashboard, click on a listing you would like to start one, click “Info,” choose and click sections where you would like to update.

Add information as much as you can. Remember that you want to show people that you are a legit business- profile photo, the area you deliver or serve, open and closing hours, specific features (e.g., free wifi, has a disabled lane), day and year you opened, public number and mobile number and a website link.

NOTE: Anyone can “suggest an edit” to your listing. It is imperative to get everything accurate on your first edit.

Don’t wait for strangers to randomly edit your info just because you failed to insert what you missed. Check your GMB dashboard weekly to make sure nothing has changed from information to detail regarding your business.

Google My Business Photos

Having excellent and accurate photos of your business will attract customers. This legitimizes your business seeing how it looks. Make sure to add pictures where you are located. Some people prefer looking at photos where you are located. 

Photos should generally be 720 pixels best use PNG files.
